About Ryan Jancik
My work is founded at the intersection of three worlds: deep technical expertise, active political engagement, and a passionate commitment to advocacy.
The Technologist
I am a computer scientist and data engineer with nearly 30 years of professional experience. My academic foundation includes a BS in Computer Science from the University of Minnesota, where I notably completed graduate-level Artificial Intelligence coursework under Presidential Award recipient Dr. Maria Gini and studied Data Modeling under Industry Pioneer Dr. John Carlis.
Through my firm, Jancik LLC, I have specialized in full-stack development, software development, data modeling, and complex systems architecture.
Professional Highlights
- Advanced Data Engineering (C.H. Robinson): As part of a small team of 4 people, we redesigned the Human Resources Enterprise Data Warehouse to be system-agnostic using Snowflake and DBT.
- Lead Systems Architect for MetLife: Developed proprietary software that automated the generation of customized insurance enrollment forms, meeting exacting state legal and formatting requirements for 20 states and 3 distinct form types, along with other extensive customization options.
- Systems Analysis (3M): Performed comprehensive systems analysis and developed custom reporting software for government systems.
- Lead Systems Architect for SuperValu: Utilized my proprietary software to develop full-color 3D bar charts and graphs customized for an individual's retirement benefits—leveraging the same engine architecture used for the MetLife project.
This technical background provides the foundation for my advocacy work. I believe that data creates accountability. Whether architecting a system for a major corporation or analyzing government records to expose safety violations, I use information to build better systems.
Current Flagship Project: LearnAboutMyHealth
I recently architected the system that runs LearnAboutMyHealth.com. This platform uses a 107-step process to transform complex medical research into clear, accessible, and trustworthy patient education.
The Advocate
I have dedicated years to advocating for the vulnerable, for public safety, and for holding professionals and government entities accountable to the law.
Political & Civic Engagement
A core component of my work is active civic engagement. Driving meaningful change requires participation in the political process, from policy analysis to community organizing.
A Record of Advocacy & Service
Hospital Accountability & Patient Safety
-
Federal Investigations & Regulatory Change
I have initiated major federal investigations into systemic failures at medical facilities. Only about 4% of all complaints lead to an on-site federal investigation.
- Buffalo Hospital (2026): Initiated a formal on-site CMS investigation regarding allegations of medical record fabrication and patient safety violations. The situation was serious enough for CMS to authorize a priority on-site investigation. (Ongoing)
- Fairview Riverside (2016): My investigation into patient safety failures resulted in an "Immediate Jeopardy" (IJ) declaration—the most severe citation issued by CMS.
-
Legal & Fiduciary Trust
Demonstrating high levels of public and private trust, I have served as a court-assigned guardian, a trustee, and a Durable Health Care Power of Attorney (DHCPOA) for seven people.
Community Safety & Public Advocacy
-
Emergency Community Mobilization
Organized a critical public safety meeting with just four days' notice after a crime surge in a neighborhood park. The meeting drew approximately 110 attendees and served as a catalyst for cooperation between residents and leadership. By engaging the Mayor, City Council members, department heads from multiple city divisions, and a Hennepin County Commissioner alongside community leaders and regional news media, we secured almost immediate corrective action—yielding a resolution that has effectively maintained community safety for over four years.
-
Crisis Response & Policy Reform
Following a critical incident near a local high school involving a direct threat to campus safety during active student programming, I worked with the police chief and city leadership to reevaluate safety protocols, leading to improved city-wide security standards.
-
Organizer, Brooklyn Park Crime Prevention (16+ years)
Grew resident involvement in my district from 15% to 85%. My neighborhood communication model was adopted by the city as the standard for crime prevention alerts.
"You and Brian built the model for the rest of the city. Your own neighborhood alerts beat the city’s [information distribution] by days…"
— Michael Sable, Former Assistant City Manager
Volunteer Advocacy & Medical Support
-
Center for Victims of Professional Abuse (CVPA)
Part of a three-person team under the CVPA that exposed the illegal withholding of child support payments from over 13,000 children, gaining federal recognition for the effort.
-
Medical Group Moderator (4+ Years)
Moderated a private international endocrinology and global health support group of 5,000+ members. In this role, I focused on creating a safe, professional environment where top medical specialists felt secure to contribute to research-driven discussions.
Civic & Global Engagement
-
Director of Data
Currently serving as Director of Data for Huldah Momanyi-Hiltsley's campaign. Previously provided critical data analysis for her historic MN House campaign.
-
Global Storytelling & Humanity
Volunteered with Cultural Jambalaya, an Emmy® Award-winning nonprofit that has produced educational resources seen by hundreds of thousands of students globally since 2005. By celebrating our shared humanity through photography and storytelling, the organization broadens world views and promotes respect and understanding for all people.
